RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team traveled to Russellville Friday to take on the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech University at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex in a series-opening doubleheader. The Cotton Blossoms fell in both of the games by a final score of, 9-1 and 5-3.
Game 1, 6 Innings

Scoring Recap:
The Golden Suns struck in the bottom of the first to take an early four-run lead. Two singles advanced runners home, and a wild pitch and a double through the right side brought in the remaining two.
ATU tacked on a fifth run in the fourth off a double to left field.
The Blossoms plated their only run in the top of the fifth off a
Sophie Wood home run to left field.
The Suns saw two more runs cross in the fifth, off a ground out and single up the middle, before putting the game out of reach in the sixth off a two-run home run to left field. ATU would take game one, 9-1.

Kyann Woods started on the mound for the Blossoms, allowing four runs on two hits with one strikeout in her 0.1 innings of work.

Kayla Olthouse entered and struck out two batters while allowing one run on seven hits in her 3.0 innings on the mound.

Ronnie Johnson entered to close the game pitching the final 2.0 innings seeing 4 runs on 3 hits.

Arkansas-Monticello quickly put the first run across home plate three batters into the ball game, with
Dacia Sexton scoring off an
Aubree Goodnight single to left center.
The Golden Suns answered right back in the bottom of the first taking the lead, 3-1, off a home run to left field, an unearned run off a single to left field, and a single up the middle. A double to left center made it a three-run lead iin the fourth in favor of ATU.
The Blossoms put their final two runs on the board in the fifth, tying the game 3-3, as
Jade Keaton scored off
Dacia Sexton's single up the middle, while
Maddie Pfleging reached on a fielding error that plated
Lainey Tippen.
ATU sealed the game, 5-3, off a single up the middle which scored a run, and an unearned run off a single to left field in the sixth.
Pitching Performance:

Jadyn Barger was first on the mound for the Blossoms pitching 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out one.

Makenzie Martin pitched 1.1 innings for the Blossoms striking out two batters while giving up two runs on three hits.
