MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team is set to travel to Magnolia, Arkansas, on Tuesday, April 15 for a midweek doubleheader with the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. The doubleheader will be split, with game one being played as a GAC meeting and game two being played as a non-conference meeting. The first pitch of the day is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from the Margaret Downing Softball Complex.
LAST MEETING
Southern Arkansas University - The Blossoms fell in both GAC games with the Muleriders in March (0-8 and 1-5). The Muleriders were the only team to score in game one, scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning and platting two in the second off a fielder's choice. A fourth run crossed in the third off another Blossom wild pitch. In the fifth SAU sealed the deal with a single up the middle scoring a run and a three-run to left field to take the game, 8-0. SAU was once again the first team to strike doing so in the third off a two-run home run to center field. The Muleriders plated two more runs between the fourth and fifth innings off a solo home run to left field and a sacrifice fly to left field respectively. The Blossoms got their first and only game run in the sixth as
Maddie Pfleging drove in
Vyanna Quezada. The game would come to a close with SAU tacking on the fifth in the final run in the seventh courtesy of a double down the left field line.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Southern Arkansas University - Arkansas-Monticello leads in the record 54-53, dating back to the first match a 1-4 loss in April of 1999. At home in Monticello the Blossoms are 24-24, in Magonlia they are 25-24, and through conference play, they sit at 47-45. The longest win streak for the ladies in green and white sits at nine games won between March 2012 and April 2013. 10 days after their first meeting with the Muleriders, UAM took the largest margin of victory a dominating 19-1 win. Through 107 games played in total, the Blossoms have run home 432 times averaging 4.04 runs per game.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLOSSOMS
The Blossoms were swept by the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Friday and Saturday, 3-1, 4-1, 2-1 in Durant, Oklahoma.
