Weevils Baseball Secure Postseason Birth With Series Sweep Over East Central

ADA, Okla. - The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team leaves Oklahoma with a 3-0 weekend sweep over the Tigers of East Central. Through three games, UAM outscored ECU 37 runs to three, securing a bid in the 2025 Great American Conference Tournament.

Game 2, 7 Innings

Scoring Recap:
Arkansas-Monticello scored first in game two, putting three runs on the board in the second. Cade Cancilla drove in the first on a triple to left center and eventually scored on an error. Roc Hawthorne drove in the third on a single to make it a 3-0 game.

The Tigers grabbed one back in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an RBI single of their own.

UAM put up four more in the third, seeing a single and two doubles from the Boll Weevils. Elijah Nichols drove in the first of the inning on a single to center. Aidan Garret and Cade Cancilla each had a double, with Garrett's scoring one and Cancilla's plating two.

East Central scored two runs in the fourth on an RBI single and a wild pitch.

The Boll Weevils pushed their lead by seven in the sixth. Justin Santoyo drove in the first of the inning on a single through the four-hole, Chaz Poppy crossed the plate on a ground ball from Camden Tanner, and Elijah Nichols grabbed three RBI with a blast over the left field wall. Cade Cancilla hit a solo shot for the final run, putting him a single shy of a cycle.

Roc Hawthorne drove in the final run of the game in the seventh with a solo home run of his own. The Tigers were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, resulting in a run-rule victory for UAM.

Pitching Performances
Maxim Mrakovcic started on the bump for UAM and pitched all 7.0 innings in game two. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts.

- Cade Cancilla - 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a double, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored
- Roc Hawthorne - 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 BB, and 1 HBP

UAM outscored the Tigers 11 runs to one in game three. Cade Cancilla drove in the first run of the ballgame on a single down the right field line in the second. The Boll Weevils scored three in the third. Kirk Woolf drove in the first on a solo home run down the left field line. Camden Tanner and Elijah Nichols each grabbed an RBI on doubles down the left field line to make it a 4-1 game.

The Tigers scored a lone run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Arkansas-Monticello saw five runs cross the plate in the fifth. Camden Tanner drove in Chaz Poppy on a fly ball to right, followed by a two-run single from Aidan Garrett. Roc Hawthorne brought home the fourth and fifth of the inning on a triple to right, extending the lead to 9-1.

UAM saw the final two runs of the game in the seventh, with the first scoring on an error and the second on a bases-loaded walk.

the game would conclude with an 11-1 victory for UAM and a 3-0 sweep on the weekend.

Pitching Performances
- Tyler Bribiescas started on the mound for the Weevils in game three, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing one run on seven hits. He struck out one batter.
Kyle Roop was called from the bullpen and struck out two batters in 1.1 innings on the mound with one hit allowed.
- Ryan Mesaris threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing no hits and no runs.

Offensive Showcase
- Justin Santoyo - 3-for-5 with a double and 3 runs scored
- Elijah Nichols - 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored
- Aidan Garrett - 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI

The Boll Weevils return to Union Bank Park on Tuesday, April 22, for the final home game of the regular season. UAM is scheduled to host Mississippi College with the first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
