Weevils Upset #12 Statesmen with 7-6 Win

Cleveland, Miss. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team traveled to Delta State University for a non-conference midweek game at Ferriss Field Tuesday night. The Boll Weevils (22-16, 14-10 GAC) overcame a late eighth-inning rally by the #12 Statesmen to take the midweek contest, 7-6.

Scoring Recap:
The Boll Weevils secured the first two runs of the game in the first as Kirk Woolf and Chaz Poppy crossed home plate off a throwing error from DSU. 

In the third inning, Arkansas-Monticello extended their lead by scoring five more runs on four hits. Poppy singled to right, bringing Woolf home. Then, with the bases loaded, Kyle Tolley hit a grand slam over the left field wall, driving in Poppy, Camden Tanner, and Justin Santoyo.

The Statesmen found a run in the fourth, and two runs off a home run and sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the lead to, 7-3.

DSU added what proved to be the final runs of the night in the eighth in a late rally as three statesmen scored off a single and a throwing error from UAM. 

Dylan Vail would hold the Statesmen scoreless in the final inning to help the Weevils secure the 7-6 win.

Pitching Performances
- Tyler Bribiescas started for the Weevils and secured the win on the night, pitching 5.0  innings allowing just three runs on four hits.
- Ryan Mesaris saw action on the mound pitching 2.0 innings and allowing just three hits.
- Adam Armstrong was called in for UAM, in his 0.1 innings on the mound he allowed three runs on four hits.
- Dylan Vail was called to pitch the remaining 1.2 innings, earning the save by striking out one batter and only allowing one hit.

Offensive Showcase
- Chaz Poppy - 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
- Justin Santoyo - 2-for-5 with 2RBIs and one run scored.
- Kirk Woolf - 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. 
- Kyle Tolley - 1-for-4 with a home run (grand slam), a stolen base, 4RBIs and one run scored.

On Deck For The Weevils
The Boll Weevils return home to Weevils Field at Union Bank Park for senior weekend, Friday April 11 as they host the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University for the last home conference series of the year inside Union Bank Park. The first pitch of the weekend is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
