MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello's Boll Weevil basketball team is set to continue GAC action this week, splitting time between Monticello, Arkansas, and Russellville, Arkansas. The men in green and white will host the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University on Thursday, January 22, at 7:30 p.m., before trekking to Arkansas Tech University on Saturday, January 24, to play the Wonder Boys at 3:00 p.m.

LAST MEETING
Southern Arkansas University - The Muleriders bested UAM by three points the last time out, with the Boll Weevils falling 74-77. The first half of the game was primarily led by the Muleriders' offense, striking first to take an early lead. Although Southern Arkansas increased its lead, the Weevils saw a higher field goal percentage over the Muleriders. The teams would head to the locker rooms with the Weevils trailing 44-37. The Weevils won the second 20-minute period, outscoring the Muleriders 37-33. Southern Arkansas increased its lead to 16 points with 10:04 left on the clock but, saw the Weevils fight back, decreasing it to four, but saw the effort fall flat as the game would conclude with a 77-74 loss. Seth Grandberry led Arkansas-Monticello again with 20 points in the game. Grandberry hit 8-18 field goals and 4-7 shots from three-point range while grabbing six rebounds and two assists. Devin Davis was another Boll Weevil with double-digits, scoring 18 on the evening. Davis was 8-14 on field goals, 1-1 on three-pointers, and 1-1 on free throws with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Tadarius Jacobs and Alex Brogdon were the final Weevils in double digits for UAM, scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively. Jacobs went 5-11 on field goals while grabbing three rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Brogdon went 4-7 on field goals while grabbing four rebounds, three assists, and a block. Arkansas-Monticello committed 8 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

Arkansas Tech University - The Boll Weevils came out of the last contest with the Wonder Boys pulling an upset, taking down ATU 61-54 in Monticello this season. The opening half of the game was a battle throughout its entirety. Arkansas-Monticello went basket-for-basket with Arkansas Tech, seeing the lead change five times with five ties. A final jumper from Ashton Price put the Boll Weevils on top to end the first half of the game. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with UAM leading, 30-27. The second 20-minute period saw Arkansas Tech take control, gaining a seven-point advantage; however, a jumper from Isaac Jackson helped Arkansas-Monticello tie the game, 46-46. The teams would exchange points back-and-forth, tying the game one final time, 49-49. The Weevils flipped the script in their favor, scoring 10 unanswered points as the game came to a close. UAM concluded 2025 with a 61-54 victory over the Wonder Boys. Ashton Price led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (5-6, 1-4 GAC), posting 20 points in the game. Price hit 8-13 total field goals on the day and 4-5 free throws. He also contributed nine total rebounds, two assists, and a block in his 38 minutes. Isaac Jackson was the second Boll Weevil in the double-digits, scoring 14 points on the evening. Jackson hit 6-11 field goals and 2-4 from the line, while grabbing two total rebounds, one assist, and a block. Giancarlo Valdez saw 10 points posted as the final Boll Weevil in the double-digits. Valdez went 4-10 on field goals and 2-5 from beyond the arc, while grabbing seven defensive rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Southern Arkansas University - This will be the 141st overall meeting between these two squads, with the Muleriders holding a 85-55 overall record. The very first meeting between UAM and SAU occurred on January 7, 1961, a 70-43 win for the Weevils. Since that date, they have built a record of 31-35 at home, 23-46 on the road, and 50-80 in overall conference play. The largest margin of victory for UAM currently stands at 70-43, set during the inaugural game. Through 140 games, the Weevils have put up 9,522 points on the board, averaging 68.01 points against the Muleriders per game.

Arkansas Tech University - Tip-off on Saturday will commence the 136th meeting between UAM and ATU. The Weevils trail in the overall record, which currently stands at 56-79. The overall record dates back to December 1960, the very first match-up, which ended in a loss for the Weevils, 48-83. Since that day, the Weevils have amassed a 40-28 home record, a 14-48 road record, and are 54-75 in GAC play. The largest margin of victory was set in January of 2018, a 94-72 win over the Wonder Boys. Since game one, the Boll Weevils have bucketed 9,371 points, averaging 69.41 points per game.

At each home game,  students can enter once at the women's game and once at the men's game, until halftime of each. (That's two entries per game day) The more games you attend, the more entries you have to be drawn from for your chance at the $10,000 contest! One lucky student will be drawn at the final home game of the season to putt a golf ball 94 feet down the full Steelman Field House basketball court for $10,000, with a regulation putter and ball. BUT, at each home game prior, a student will be chosen to shoot a free throw shot for $100. The current offer stands at $500dollars if the shot is made. If that shot is missed, then the money rolls over to the next week. There is a possibility of a $900 free throw shot, on top of the $10,000 full court putt, if no one makes it
