MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil basketball team will head to Oklahoma, to commence the second half of their season, this weekend for a pair of games versus No. 16 Southern Nazarene University and No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist University. Due to current weather conditions in Oklahoma, The Great American Conference, in conjunction with athletic administrators from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, Southern Arkansas University, Southern Nazarene University, and Oklahoma Baptist University, announced changes to the upcoming basketball schedule. The Boll Weevils will now play a back-to-back 7:30 p.m. games on Friday, January 30, versus No. 16 Southern Nazarene, and Saturday, January 31, versus No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist. 

LAST MEETING
No. 16 Southern Nazarene - The Weevils came up just short to the Crimson Storm falling 50-59 in the last meeting. The opening half of the game saw Arkansas-Monticello take advantage of the slow pace of play, going 8-2 through the first four minutes. The Boll Weevils held the lead for the majority of the 20 minutes, seeing a half-high lead of eight points. The Crimson Storm began applying pressure and tied the game with 58 seconds remaining on the clock. The half concluded with the teams tied at 23-23. Southern Nazarene took control of the second half of the game, leading almost in its entirety, outscoring the Boll Weevils 36-27. The Crimson Storm increased their lead to a game-high 12 points with 6:27 on the clock, but saw UAM fight back, decreasing it to nine as the game came to a close. Arkansas-Monticello came out of the contest with a 59-50 loss. Ashton Price led the way for Arkansas-Monticello posting 14 points in the game. Price hit 5-15 total field goals on the day and 4-5 free throws. He also contributed two defensive rebounds and an assist in his 40 minutes. Josh Smith was the second Boll Weevil in the double-digits, scoring 12 points on the afternoon. Smith hit 5-7 field goals and 2-4 from the line, while grabbing five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Giancarlo Valdez saw 11 points posted as the final Boll Weevil in the double-digits. Valdez went 4-6 on field goals and 3-5 from beyond the arc, while grabbing nine defensive rebounds, three assists, and a block. Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist - Arkansas-Monticello fell to the Bison 57-71 the last time these two teams met on the court. Arkansas-Monticello kicked off the first half with an early 8-3 lead over the Bison; however, Oklahoma Baptist quickly flipped the script in their favor, taking a 31-16 lead over the Weevils. With 4:32 remaining on the clock, the Bison reached a half-high of 15 points in the lead over Monticello. The teams headed to the locker room at the half with the Weevils trailing, 35-26. The second 20-minute period proved more evenly matched, as Arkansas-Monticello was only outscored 36-31. The Bison increased their lead to a game-high 16 points with 18 seconds on the clock, but the Weevils decreased it to 14 as the game came to a close. Arkansas-Monticello came out with a 71-57 loss to open conference play. Isaac Jackson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello posting 17 points in the game. Jackson hit 8-20 total field goals on the day and 1-1 free throws. He also contributed four total rebounds, two assists, and a steal in his 40 minutes. Josh Smith and Ashton Price saw 15 points posted on the evening, respectively, as the final Boll Weevils in the double-digits. Smith went 5-11 on field goals and 5-7 from the line, while grabbing six rebounds, one block, and a steal. Price went 4-10 on field goals and 7-10 from the line, while grabbing three rebounds and an assist. Arkansas-Monticello committed 11 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

ALL-TIME SERIES
No. 16 Southern Nazarene - Fridays match will be the 28th meeting between the Boll Weevils and Crimson Storm, with UAM trailing 5-22 in the record book. UAM started 2-0, winning their first two games against SNU on January 10 and February 16, 2013, before going 3-22 overall. The men in green and white are 4-9 in Steelman, 1-11 in Bethany and 5-20 in conference play. The Weevils have etched 1,604 points on the scoreboard in 27 games, averaging 59.41 points per game.

No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist - Tip-off on Saturday will be the 21st meeting between these two teams, with OBU holding a two-game advantage over the Weevils, 11-9. This record dates back to the first meeting between these two teams on January 9, 2016, an 80-72 win for UAM. The longest win streak stands at six games, January 9, 2016- January 27, 2018. The Boll Weevils are 5-5 at home, 4-5 on the road in Shawnee, and 9-9 in conference play. Through 20 games, the Weevils have put 1,411 points on the board, averaging 70.55 points per game.
