ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team traveled to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to open the second half of the season against Henderson State University. The Blossoms came out of the match-up with a 76-41 loss to the Reddies.
Alyssa Batton led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (5-7, 0-6 GAC), posting 13 points in the matchup. Batton hit 5-10 total field goals and 3-4 free throws on the afternoon. She also contributed two defensive rebounds in her 35 minutes played, along with one assist and a steal.
Henderson State (8-2, 4-2 GAC) was led by
Natalie Cardenas with 20 points.
Arkansas-Monticello fell behind in the scoreboard early in the opening half of the game, however, a layup from
Brilynn Findley cut the deficit to just one point, 14-13. The Blossoms struggled to keep up with Henderson State's offense in the second quarter, as UAM was held to single-digits, 14-8. The teams were off to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms trailing, 28-21.
Henderson State carried their momentum into the second half of the game, scoring 20 points compared to Arkansas-Monticello's 8. The Reddies increased their advantage to 19 points, leading 48-29. The Reddies did not falter, outscoring the Blossoms 28-12 in the final quarter of the game. Unfortunately, the matchup concluded with a 76-41 loss for Arkansas-Monticello.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 12 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms will return to the court on Thursday, January 8, as they travel to Ada, Oklahoma to take on the Tigers of East Central University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
