MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello's Boll Weevil basketball team is will continue there stretch of three games, concluding with two this weekend. The Weevils are set to head to Magnolia, Arkansas for a 7:30 meeting with the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University on Thursday, February 12. The men in green and white will return home on Saturday, February 14 for a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Reddies of Henderson State Univeristy inside Steelman Field House.

Ashton Price led the way for Arkansas-Monticello posting 20 points each in the game. Jackson hit 6-19 total field goals on the day, one three-pointer, and 7-8 free throws. He also contributed eight total rebounds in his 38 minutes, along with three steals, two assists, and a block. Price hit 6-10 total field goals on the day, two three-pointers, and 6-9 free throws. He also contributed six total rebounds in his 34 minutes, along with three assists.Â
Josh Smith saw 10 points posted as the final Boll Weevil in the double-digits. Smith hit 5-10 field goals while grabbing nine total rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Arkansas-Monticello opened the first half of the game with a three-pointer fromÂ
Ashton Price to give the Weevils an early lead. Southern Arkansas quickly flipped the script in their favor, climbing to a 10-point advantage. The Weevils began applying pressure and tied the game with 48 seconds remaining on the clock. The half concluded with a jumper fromÂ
Isaac Jackson at the buzzer to put the Weevils on top, 28-26. The second 20-minute period saw Arkansas-Monticello take control of the game, scoring eight unanswered points to open the second half. Southern Arkansas tried to cut the deficit; however, the Weevils would not back down, gaining a 10-point advantage on seven separate occasions, with a game-high of 12 points. A final free throw fromÂ
Jakob Zenon would conclude the matchup with a 68-57 victory for the Weevils.Arkansas-Monticello committed 9 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
Henderson State University - The Weevils fell to the Reddies the last time out this season 64-66.Â
Jakob Zenon led the way for Arkansas-Monticello, posting 20 points in the game. Zenon hit 7-12 total field goals on the day and six three-pointers. He also contributed two assists and a rebound in his 37 minutes.Â
Ashton Price followed close behind in the double-digits, scoring 19 points of his own. Price hit 4-9 field goals, one three-pointer, and 10-12 free throws while grabbing five defensive rebounds, three assists, and three steals.Â
Giancarlo Valdez was the third Boll Weevil in the double-digits, scoring 12 points on the afternoon. Valdez hit 3-8 field goals, three three-pointers, and 3-4 from the line, while grabbing five total rebounds, five assists, and a steal.Â

Jakob Zenon to reclaim the lead 21-20 with 07:06 left to play. UAM held control for the remainder of the period, increasing their lead by eight. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Weevils on top, 37-29. The second 20-minute period was a battle throughout its entirety, seeing five lead changes and the score tied five times. The Weevils and Reddies displayed a stunning game of basketball, exchanging baskets back-and-forth, with the result coming down to the wire. After a heartbreaking final minute of play, the contest would conclude with a 66-64 loss for Arkansas-Monticello. Arkansas-Monticello committed 21 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Southern Arkansas University - This will be the 142nd overall meeting between these two squads, with the Muleriders holding a 85-56 overall record. The very first meeting between UAM and SAU occurred on January 7, 1961, a 70-43 win for the Weevils. Since that date, they have built a record of 32-35 at home, 23-46 on the road, and 51-80 in overall conference play. The largest margin of victory for UAM currently stands at 70-43, set during the inaugural game. Through 141 games, the Weevils have put up 9,590 points on the board, averaging 68.01 points against the Muleriders per game.
Henderson State University - Saturday's match-up will be the 137th meeting between the two squads. The Boll Weevils trail the Reddies in overall record, 55-80, dating back to the first matchup on December 9, 1960, a 67-65 UAM win. The largest margin of victory came via a 77-56 decision in February of  2008. Arkansas-Montiello's longest win streak over HSU is eight games, played between January 2017 and February 2020. Inside Steelman Field House, the Weevils are 32-33, 23-39 on the road, and 52-72 in GAC conference action. Through 136 games, the Weevils have amassed 9,466 points over the Reddies, averaging 69.6 points per game.

At each home game, students can enter once at the women's game and once at the men's game, until halftime of each. (That's two entries per game day) The more games you attend, the more entries you have to be drawn from for your chance at the $10,000 contest! One lucky student will be drawn at the final home game of the season to putt a golf ball 94 feet down the full Steelman Field House basketball court for $10,000, with a regulation putter and ball. BUT, at each home game prior, a student will be chosen to shoot a free throw shot for $100. The current offer stands at $600 dollars if the shot is made. If that shot is missed, then the money rolls over to the next week. There is a possibility of a $900 free throw shot, on top of the $10,000 full court putt, if no one makes it.
