Blossoms Leave Rivalry Match-Up With a Loss to SAU

MAGNOLIA Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to Magnolia, Arkansas to take on Great American Conference rival Southern Arkansas University on Thursday evening. The Blossoms came out of the contest with a 56-48 loss to the Muleriders.

Brilynn Findley and Alindsey Long led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (6-17, 1-16 GAC), posting 15 points apiece in the matchup, respectively. Findley hit 6-9 total field goals, one three-pointer, and 2-3 free throws on the evening. She also contributed six total rebounds in her 36 minutes played, along with an assist and four steals. Long hit 6-18 total field goals and three three-pointers on the evening. She also contributed three defensive rebounds in her 35 minutes played, along with an assist, a steal, and a block.

Jena Warden saw 10 points posted on the evening as the final Blossom in the double-digits. Warden hit 4-12 field goals and two three-pointers, along with three total rebounds and an assist. 

Southern Arkansas (11-12, 7-10 GAC) was led by Kennedy Moss with 14 points.

The opening half of the game was a battle throughout its entirety, seeing Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas exchange baskets back-and-forth. After three lead changes, the Muleriders prevailed, outscoring the Blossoms by just two, 13-11, in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Muleriders score 12 points in comparison to the Blossom's 11, increasing their advantage to just three. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with UAM trailing, 25-22.

Arkansas-Monticello returned from the half, driven to cut Southern Arkansas' lead, outscoring the Muleriders 16-12 in the third quarter. A three-pointer from Alindsey Long put the Blossoms back on top, leading 38-37 heading into the final quarter of the game. The Muleriders once again outscored the Blossoms, 19-10, gaining an eight point advantage. As the time ran out, UAM came up short, concluding the game with a 56-48 loss. 

Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Field House on Saturday, February 14, when they host Great American Conference member Henderson State University. The match is set to tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
