Blossoms Fall in Doubleheader with the Bison

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team finished the final two games of their GAC opening series on Saturday in Shawnee against the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist. The Blossoms fell in the doubleheader to Oklahoma Baptist, 1-8 and 5-7.

Game 2, 7 Innings 
Arkansas-Monticello: 1, Oklahoma Baptist: 8

Scoring Recap:
The Bison were first on the board in game two. A solo home run commenced the scoring, followed by a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0. OBU closed the inning with a 6-run lead after a grand slam. 

UAM's only run came on a Bison fielding error that brought in Lainey Tippen.

Oklahoma Baptist added two more runs in the sixth to take the game 8-1.

Pitching Performances
- Kyleigh Benton started in the circle for the Blossoms, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing six runs on three hits, and striking out one batter.
- Kayla Olthouse pitched the remaining 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out one batter.

Scoring Recap:
The Blossoms plated the first run of game three on the board in the top of the first off Makenzie Martin's sacrifice fly to left field. Dacia Sexton scored on the play.

The Bison found the equalizer in the bottom of the inning with a single down the right field line that would bring in a run.

Arkansas-Monticello scored three runs between the second and fourth innings. With bases loaded, a called ball four on Sexton saw Ashlynne Vote walk home in the second. Martin singled to left field, bringing in Jade Keaton and Sexton.

Oklahoma Baptist tied the game in the fourth off two singles up the middle, plating three. In the sixth, they found their remaining three runs off a single to left field that scored two, and a sacrifice fly to center that plated one.

Vote concluded the scoring for the Blossoms and the series with a solo shot to centerfield. The series closed with a final score of 7-5.

Pitching Performances
- Makenzie Martin started in the circle, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out two batters in her 4.0 innings on the mound.
- Jadyn Barger experienced the setback on the day, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out two batters in her 2.0 innings pitched.

Offensive Showcase
- Ashlynne Vote - 1-for-3 with a home run, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, and a walk
- Makenzie Martin - 1-for-1 with 3RBI and a walk.

The Blossoms are set to return to Monticello for their 2026 Home Opener on Tuesday, February 24, against the Choctaws of Mississippi College, with the doubleheader commencing at 3:00 p.m.
