Weevils Best Reddies in Doubleheader to Secure Series Win

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team concluded its three-game series with the Reddies of Henderson State University on Saturday, with the Weevils taking both games of the doubleheader. UAM took the first, 10-8 an the second, 8-0, to secure the series victory, 2-1.

Game two of the day saw freshman pitcher Hunter Heath secure a complete-game shutout, going 7 innings and allowing just 3 hits. The League City, Texas native became the first Weevil this season to do so.

Scoring Recap:
The Reddies plated five runs in the top of the second to take a strong commanding lead early, courtesy of a UAM error, a passed ball, and a three-run shot over the left field wall.

The Boll Weevils cut the lead to just one in their half of the second. Eli Marvin crossed the plate first to get the Weevils on the board off a Kyle Tolley single to right field. A fielder's choice sent Darcy Barry in, before Camden Tanner singled up the middle to advance Drew Floyd and Jackson Riedling home.

HSU stretched its lead to eight runs, off a two-run homer to right center and a single to right center in the fourth.

Riedling, Gabe Kuttenkuler, Tolley, Elijah Olaybal, and Daniel Lizarraga all saw themselves crossing home in the sixth inning to take Arkansas-Monticello's lead to 9-8. Rielding and Kuttenkuller plated off AJ Keely's single down the left field line. Tolley off a single to right field by Lizarraga, and Olaybal and Lizarraga off a double to left field by Marvin.

The final run of the game came in the eighth as UAM stretched its lead to 10-8 as an HSU error scored Olaybal.

Pitching Performances:
- Vincent Segovia started on the mound for Arkansas-Monticello, allowing seven runs on seven hits, while striking out four batters in his 3.2 innings.
- Bryce Louis entered to pitch 1.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out one batter.
- Bryce McGuire earned the win for UAM, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters in his 2.0 innings of work.
- John White recorded the save for the Weevils, allowing just three hits, while striking out four batters in his 2.0 innings.

Offensive Showcase:
- Eli Marvin - 2-for-5 with a double, 3 RBI, and 1 run scored
- Elijah Olaybal - 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 SB, and 1 BB

After 5.5 scoreless innings, the Boll Weevil bats became red hot, securing eight runs in the bottom of the sixth. A wild pitch from HSU with bases loaded brought in Elijah Olaybal to kick off the run fest. A bases-clearing double from AJ Keely, plated Darcy Barry, Gabe Kuttenkuler, and Jackson Riedling. Drew Floyd swapped places with Keely with a double to right field, before scoring himself off a double up the middle from Daniel Lizarraga. The hit fest came to a close with a double to left field from Olaybal, scoring Lizarraga and Sebastian Hernandez.

Pitching Performances:
- Hunter Heath secured the win, pitching all 7.0 innings for the Weevils, allowing just three hits, while striking out seven batters.

Offensive Showcase:
- Elijah Olaybal - 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and 1 run scored
- AJ Keely - 2-for-3 with a double, 3 RBI, 1 run scored, and 1 SB

Notes of Interest:
- Hunter Heath's complete game is the first of any Weevil in the 2026 season
- This was UAM's second shutout of the year, the first being an 8-0 win over Southern Nazarene.
- First game this season where all the runs on the board occurred in the same inning.

The Boll Weevils will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 3, as they head to Clinton, Mississippi, for a 2:00 p.m. meeting with the Choctaws of Mississippi College.
