MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello's Boll Weevil basketball team returns home to Steelman Field House Thursday, February 5 and Saturday, February 7 for two Great American Conference match ups. The Weevils take on the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Tigers of East Central on Saturday.

LAST MEETING
Southeastern Oklahoma - The Boll Weevils took down the Savage Storm earlier this year, 66-71, in part to Josh Smith's 30 points in the game. The opening half of the game was a battle throughout its entirety. Arkansas-Monticello went basket-for-basket with Southeastern Oklahoma, seeing the lead change six times with six ties. A final layup from Isaac Jackson helped the Weevils tie the game with 34 seconds remaining on the clock. The half concluded with the Weevils and Savage Storm even at 32-32. The second 20-minute period was once again a battle, seeing 11 lead changes and the score tied three times. Arkansas-Monticello and Southeastern Oklahoma exchanged points back-and-forth, tying the game one final time, 48-48, with 12:01 left on the clock. The Weevils held control for the remainder of the period, seeing a game-high lead of seven points. The contest would conclude with a 71-66 victory for UAM.   Josh Smith led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (7-7, 3-5 GAC), posting 30 points in the game. Smith hit 13-20 total field goals on the day and 4-6 free throws. He also contributed eight total rebounds in his 35 minutes. Ashton Price was the second Boll Weevil in the double-digits, scoring 16 points on the afternoon. Price hit 6-12 field goals, one three-pointer, and 3-3 from the line, while grabbing two defensive rebounds, two steals, and an assist.  Isaac Jackson saw 12 points posted as the final Boll Weevil in the double-digits. Jackson hit 5-11 field goals and 2-2 free throws, while grabbing five total rebounds and five assists.  Arkansas-Monticello committed 4 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

East Central - The Weevils just beat the Tigers the last time out, thanks to a last second buzzer beater by Ashton Price, 61-58. The opening half of the game was a battle throughout its entirety. Arkansas-Monticello went basket-for-basket with East Central, seeing the lead change six times with six ties. A final layup and three-pointer from Ashton Price and Jakob Zenon, respectively, put the Boll Weevils on top to end the first half of the game. The teams were sent to the locker rooms with UAM leading, 26-21.  The second 20-minute period saw Arkansas-Monticello take control, increasing their advantage to a game-high of 12 points. With 08:27 left to play on the clock, East Central looked to cut the deficit. The teams would exchange points back-and-forth, tying the game one final time, 58-58, with four seconds remaining. The game would conclude with a 61-58 victory for UAM, thanks to a three-pointer by Ashton Price at the buzzer.  Ashton Price led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (6-7, 2-5 GAC), posting 25 points in the game. Price hit 8-11 total field goals on the day, one three-pointer, and 8-8 free throws. He also contributed eight defensive rebounds, four assists, and two steals in his 32 minutes. Josh Smith and Jakob Zenon saw 13 points posted as the final Boll Weevils in the double-digits, respectively. Smith hit 4-5 field goals and 5-7 from the line, while grabbing six rebounds, two blocks, and an assist. Zenon hit 4-10 field goals, 3-8 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 from the line, while grabbing one rebound and an assist. Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Southeastern Oklahoma - Arkansas-Monticello trails the Savage Storm in the overall record, 12-20. The first time these two squads faced off was in March of 1986, and the Boll Weevils came out of the contest on top 67-61. The Weevils' largest margin of victory came in March of 2021, a 96-63 win at Steelman Field House. At home, the Weevils are 7-7, on the road 3-11, and in overall conference play, 9-19. Through 32 games played, the Weevils have placed 2,208 points on the scoreboard, averaging 69 points per game.

East Central - The Boll Weevils hold a five-game advantage over the Tigers, 17-12, which dates back to the first-ever meeting in January 2012, a 75-69 win. This win would be the first of five straight that the Weevils had over ECU between January 21, 2012, and January 2, 2014. The men in green and white stand at an 8-5 home, 8-6 away, 16-11 conference record. Through 29 games played, the Weevils have combined for 2,190 points, averaging 75.52 points per game.

LAST TIME OUT THIS SEASON
The Weevils went 0-2 in Oklahoma this past week. Falling to the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene 50-64 on Friday, January 30, and the Bison Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, January 31, 60-70 .

UAM STUDENT CONTEST:  STUDENTS! With conference play in action for basketball, you have the opportunity to enter to win the Union Bank $10,000 Full Court Putt Challenge on February 28! At each home game,  students can enter once at the women's game and once at the men's game, until halftime of each. (That's two entries per game day) The more games you attend, the more entries you have to be drawn from for your chance at the $10,000 contest! One lucky student will be drawn at the final home game of the season to putt a golf ball 94 feet down the full Steelman Field House basketball court for $10,000, with a regulation putter and ball. BUT, at each home game prior, a student will be chosen to shoot a free throw shot for $100. The current offer stands at $600 dollars if the shot is made. If that shot is missed, then the money rolls over to the next week. There is a possibility of a $900 free throw shot, on top of the $10,000 full court putt, if no one makes it
