Blossoms Triumph Over Bulldogs in Alvy Early Memorial Opener

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team (4-1) opened the eighth annual Alvy Early Memorial Classic at Bentonville with a 4-3 win over Truman State University.

Scoring Recap:
Truman State struck first in the top of the third off an RBI double to center field.

Dacia Sexton drove in Emmy Apodaca for the Blossom's first run of the tournament on a single to center field in the third to tie the ballgame 1-1.

The Bulldogs would add their remaining two runs in the fourth inning. A sacrifice bunt followed by an RBI single to right field to gain a 3-1 lead.

The Blossoms would start a rally in the bottom of the fourth, adding three to the board. With the bases loaded, Lainey Tippen would reach first on a single to center field, advancing Aubry O'Bryant home to bring the Blossoms within one. A grounder to the pitcher would plate Ayrland Jiles to tie the game 3-3. The final run of the game came from Apodaca, who reached home on a left field single from Maddie Moore.

With no other runs in the remaining three innings, the Blossoms took the first game of the tournament, 4-3.

Pitching Performance:
- Jadyn Barger started on the mound for the Blossoms, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one in her 2.0 innings of work.
- Kayla Olthouse pitched the remaining 5.0 innings and took the win, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out two.

Batting Showcase:
- Dacia Sexton - 2-for-4 with one double and two RBI
- Maddie Moore - 1-for-2 with an RBI

UP NEXT
Tournament play continues this afternoon, as the Blossoms take on the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist. The first pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
