Weevils Open Series in Alva with Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALVA, OKLA – The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team was back out on the field Friday night, this time in Alva, Oklahoma, for a doubleheader with the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The Boll Weevils pulled off a doubleheader sweep to secure the series win over the Rangers, taking game one 9-1 and game two 6-4.

Game 1, 9 Innings

Scoring Recap:
Elijah Olaybal doubled to left field to score Daniel Lizarraga in the top of the first to kick off the game.

NWOSU saw an opportunity to equalize the game with a single to left that plated a run in their half of the first.

The Weevils added eight runs through six straight innings to take the lead and never looked back. Jackson Riedling ran in off a double to left by Caden Carney in the top of the fourth. Eli Marvin sacrificed to left field to score Lizarraga in the fifth. Darcy Barry skyrocketed his seventh home run of the season over the right field wall to stretch the lead to four in the sixth.  Lizarraga once more crossed home as Riedling singled to right in the seventh to make it 5-1 UAM.

Heading to the top of the eighth, the Weevils plated three runs as Lizarraga brought in Camden Tanner with a double to left field. Marvin reached first on a single to center to bring in Olaybal and Lizarraga. The final run of the game came in the top of the ninth as Riedling scored off a sacrifice fly from Gabe Kuttenkuler.

Pitching Performances:
- Hunter Heath started for UAM, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing one run on four hits with one strikeout to earn the win.
- Nathan McManus was summoned to pitch the remaining 3.0 innings, allowing only three hits with one strikeout in his 13 batters faced.

Offensive Showcase:
- Daniel Lizarraga - 4-for-5 with 4 RBI, four runs scored, two 2B's, and 2 SB.
- Darcy Barry - 3-for-5 with a home run, 1 RBI, and one run scored.
- Jackson Riedling - 2-for-3 with two runs scored, 1 RBI, and 1 SB.
- Elijah Olaybal - 1-for-2 with, one 2B, 1 SB, 1 RBI, and one run scored.
- Caden Carney - 1-for-4 with one 2B, and 1 RBI.
- Kyle Tolley - 1-for-4 with 1 SB.

Notes of Interest:
- Darcy Barry now joins Eli Marvin and Elijah Olaybal with seven home runs this season.

Scoring Recap:
Weevil bats were hot to start game two of the doubleheader, plating four runs to start the inning. Jackson Riedling led off the scoring with a three-run home run over the right-center wall to plate himself, Camden Tanner, and Elijah Olaybal. Darcy Barry was the fourth and final Weevil to cross as he plated off Caden Carney's single up the middle.

Arkansas-Monticello added its final two runs in the third and sixth innings. Riedling scored in the third on Kyle Tolley's sacrifice bunt, and a bases-loaded walk to Eli Marvin in the sixth brought in Tanner.

The Rangers mounted a sixth-inning comeback, scoring four runs on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly, and a double to right center.

UAM held the Rangers scoreless in the seventh and won 6-4.

Pitching Performances:
- Vincent Segovia earned the win on the rubber, pitching the first 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on two hits, while striking out four batters.
- John White came in and recorded the save, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing just two hits in his eight batters faced.

Offensive Showcase:
- Jackson Riedling - 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBI, and two runs scored.
- Camden Tanner - 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Elijah Olaybal - 2-for-3 with one 2B, and one run scored.
- Darcy Barry - 1-for-3 with 2 SB, and one run scored.

Notes of Interest:
Elijah Olaybal and Eli Marvin each extended their on-base streak to 25 and 20.
