TOPEKA, Kan. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Volleyball closed out day one of the Ichabod Classic on Friday afternoon. The Weevils concluded Friday's game with a 3-0 loss to tournament host Washburn University.
FIRST SET (25-17 WU, WU leads 1-0)
The opening set remained close early, with the teams trading points through an 8-8 tie. Washburn then began to create separation, using a 4-0 run to take a 12-8 advantage. Arkansas-Monticello stayed within reach through the middle of the set, but the Ichabods controlled the closing stretch to win, 25-17.
SECOND SET (25-16 WU, WU leads 2-0)
Arkansas-Monticello opened the second set with a 6-3 advantage, highlighted by a kill from
Sophia Grubbs. Washburn responded with a run to take the lead and later used a 6-0 stretch to build a 14-8 advantage. The Weevils continued to battle but could not close the gap, as Washburn took the set, 25-16.
THIRD SET (25-15 WU, WU wins 3-0)
The third set stayed even early, with UAM and Washburn tied at 9-9. The Ichabods then pulled away with six consecutive points to move ahead 15-9. Arkansas-Monticello answered with several late points, including a kill from
Sophia Grubbs and a block involving
Kylie Miller and
Ja'Miah Thomas, but Washburn closed out the match with a 25-15 victory.
