Zachary Exume joins the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 2020-21 after serving as an Assistant Coach at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“I am really excited to join UAM’s women’s program. I love the small town feel and the relationship the team has with the community. To receive this opportunity from Padriac McMeel and Markell Cox means everything. I can’t wait to get to work, put my best foot forward, and contribute to the program in any way I can.”
Zachary helped Purcell Marian High School Girl’s Basketball team to a 21-win season. The team advanced as far as the Regional Championship game.
Prior to Purcell Marian, Exume served as the Assistant Coach at Cincinnati Christian University from 2017 to 2019. At CCU Zachary was responsible for scheduling, fundraising, recruiting, scouting, strength & conditioning, film exchange, film breakdowns, organizing volunteer opportunities, and scheduling team meals.
Exume played a key role in turning the program around at CCU. He recruited over 30 players to CCU and helped the program win 10 conference games which is the most in school history. CCU qualified for the River States Conference for the first time in 10 years during the 2018-2019 season.
He also played a crucial part in the development of players. McKenzie Tolson finished shooting 38% from 3 and broke CCU’s school record for most 3’s made in a season. The following season saw guards Kamiylah Bomar and Gabby Suarez both earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors. Gabby finished shooting 39% from 3 which was top overall in conference.
Exume began his coaching career at Laurel Senior High School as an Assistant Track Coach while also volunteering with Delaware State University Men’s Basketball team in 2014. His relay team that season qualified for the state meet and finished 3rd in the 4x100 meter relay.\
Afterwards, he went on to Miami University (OH) and volunteered as a manager with the Men’s Basketball team from 2014 to 2016. He also served as a volunteer Assistant Coach for Talawanda High School Boy’s Basketball team for the 2015-2016 season. He then volunteered as a basketball coach at the Friar’s Club in Cincinnati before he was brought on at CCU.
“I’ve always been known as a man who really cares for the players and pushes them to new limits so they can go further than they’ve ever gone while knowing that they have another person who truly cares about them. When the players are enjoying and achieving excellence on the court, in the classroom, and in the community, then they are succeeding in the holistic positive experience at UAM.”
In 2016, Exume graduated from Miami University with a Master’s of Science Degree in Kinesiology and Health focusing on Sport & Exercise Psychology. In 2014 Zachary earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Delaware State University focusing on Mass Communications and minoring in coaching.
Exume is a proud author of his book “A Consistent and Successful Coaching Philosophy.” He is originally from the State of Delaware and a graduate of Laurel Senior High School.
