Breanna Walp joined the volleyball coaching staff in February of 2025. She comes to UAM after serving a year as the assistant coach at Defiance College for the 2024 season, where she began her career coaching college volleyball.
During her time with Defiance, Walp helped contribute to seven Yellow Jackets' post-season awards in the team's first season in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), including Second-Team and All-Freshman team selections, five Academic All-Conference recognitions, and one Champions of Character Team selection.
Before beginning her collegiate coaching career, Walp was a student-athlete with a five-year playing career at the Division I level. Formerly a middle blocker, Walp saw stints at three universities. She spent the first two years of college volleyball at the University of Texas-Arlington for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, before playing the next two seasons of her undergraduate career at the University of North Florida. Walp also played one graduate season at Syracuse in 2022.
In her career, she recorded 838 kills and 505 total blocks, including a North Florida DI-era record of 148 blocks in 2021, placing her in the top 10 nationally. In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Walp was a valuable team leader by serving as a two-year captain at North Florida and an all-conference performer in the classroom.
Before the start of her collegiate coaching career, Walp served as a club volleyball head coach and assistant coach. She was an assistant for the ACE Volleyball Club in Arlington during the 2019-20 club season. Before joining the staff at Defiance, she was the head coach for Abyss Volleyball Club based in San Antonio, as well as helping coach Gym Rats Club Volleyball.
Walp is a native of Portland, Texas, and is a 2018 graduate of Gregory Portland High School. She earned her bachelor's in business administration with a focus on marketing from North Florida in 2022 and focused on project management as a graduate student at Syracuse.
