FORT SMITH, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2010-11 schedule on Saturday with a 78-68 loss to Arkansas-Fort Smith in the Lady Lion Classic.

Junior Channon Haywood led the Cotton Blossoms (1-1) with 21 points after going 9-for-18 from the field and 3-for-5 at the foul line. The St. Louis, Mo. native also racked up a team-high eight rebounds.              

The Lady Lions (2-0) were led by Tashley Gaines, who also scored 21 points.

The Cotton Blossoms are now set to take a week off from competition with their next contest slated for Tuesday, November 23 against Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
