NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team suffered an 84-71 loss to NCAA Division I Northwestern State Tuesday night at Prather Coliseum.
The Cotton Blossoms (1-2) were led in scoring by junior Alex Hart, who was 4-of-12 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the foul line for 14 points. The Thurnhill, Ontario native added three rebounds, four assists and four steals to her final totals.
Junior Taylor Clark followed closely with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Juniors Jasmine Rush and Chelsea Johnson each had 10 points in the loss.
As a team, UAM finished the contest shooting 41 percent from the field (26-of-64), 29 percent from three-point range (6-of-21) and 65 percent from the foul line (13-of-20). The Lady Demons (2-2) outrebounded UAM 47-35 and finished the contest shooting 46 percent from the field (31-of-67), 62 percent from three-point range (8-of-13) and 70 percent from the foul line (14-of-20).
Northwestern State was led by Jessica McPhail’s double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Brittany Houston added 19 points, while Jordan James and Trudy Armstrong each had 18.
The Cotton Blossoms break for the Thanksgiving holiday and return to action this weekend, when the team hosts the 4th Annual Dr. Mary Jane Gilbert Classic at Steelman Field House.
