MONTICELLO – Junior Ricardo Hall had a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds to help the University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team capture a 79-65 win over West Alabama Friday night at home.
Hall’s points and rebounds were both game highs for his fourth double-double of the season. The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native finished the contest 7-of-9 from the field and 11-of-14 at the foul line.
The Boll Weevils (7-2) had a strong first half, shooting 54 percent from the field, 41 percent on three-pointers and 70 percent at the foul line. UAM held its largest lead of the half of 14 points following a 15-3 scoring run from 10:08 mark to the 4:15 mark, capped by a free throw from senior Terrence Hill to give the Boll Weevils a 29-15 lead.
UAM used a 7-3 run to close out the first period with a 38-25 lead.
The Boll Weevils opened the second half on a 9-2 run to capture their largest lead of 20 points at 47-27 with 16:29 left in regulation. Junior Sergio Crowe and senior Jerrell Boswell each had a three-pointer during that run.
The Tigers (3-6) did not let up, and cut the UAM lead down to six points with 10:46 remaining following an 11-1 scoring run, which included three three-pointers and fast-break dunk.
Besides Hall’s double-digit performance, the Boll Weevils had three other scorers with at least 12 points. Crowe finished the night with 18 points, highlighted by four three-pointers. Junior LA Farmer turned in 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Boswell finished the game with 12 points, all on treys.
Alquan Mendenhall led the Tigers with 14 points, followed by Ryan Fitch and Richard Dixon with 13 points each.
The Boll Weevils finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field (24-of-54), 35 percent on three-pointers (10-of-29) and 72 percent at the foul line (21-of-29). The Tigers shot 41 percent from the field (24-of-58), 35 percent on three-pointers (10-of-29) and 50 percent at the foul line (7-of-14).
UAM returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against West Georgia inside Steelman Field House.
