SECOND HALF WOES DOOM BLOSSOMS IN LOSS TO HARDING

SEARCY, Ark. – A slow second half allowed the Lady Bisons of Harding to capture a 52-40 win over the University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team on Monday at Rhodes Field House.

The Cotton Blossoms (6-11, 2-3 Gulf South Conference) matched Harding’s points in the first half, shooting 46 percent from the field, but only five field goals and 23 percent shooting in the second half resulted in UAM’s third consecutive loss.

The Lady Bisons (13-4, 4-1 GSC) held UAM to only one field goal in the first 13 minutes of the second half to grow their largest lead of the game at 14 points. The Cotton Blossoms rallied to cut the HU lead to 10 points with 2:52 remaining at 50-40.

Junior Channon Haywood led UAM with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 free-throw shooting. Junior Alex Hart was the only other Cotton Blossom to reach double-figures with 11 points.

Harding’s Sierra Rollins led all players with 15 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Bailey St. Clair also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cotton Blossoms finished the contest shooting 34 percent from the field (15-of-44), 18 percent on three-pointers (3-of-17) and 50 percent at the foul line (7-of-14). The Lady Bisons shot 30 percent from the field (17-of-56), 18 percent on three-pointers (3-of-17) and 75 percent at the foul line (15-of-20).

UAM returns to action this Thursday, January 27 in Magnolia, Ark. against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
