NO. 4 CHARGERS ROLL PAST WEEVILS, 84-55

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team suffered its second straight loss in the state of Alabama with an 84-55 loss to No. 4 Alabama-Huntsville Monday night.
 
In the first half, UAM (8-4) started fast, matching baskets with the Chargers (12-2) through the game’s first seven minutes. The Boll Weevils held their largest lead of three points at 10-7 following senior Jerrell Boswell’s second three-pointer of the opening period.
 
The Chargers answered with consistency from beyond the three-point arc, nailing three consecutive treys to stretch their lead to 37-26 with 5:16 remaining in the first half.
 
The Boll Weevils dropped their first half shooting to 29 percent over the final five minutes, allowing UAH to take a 49-28 lead at half time.
 
In the second half, the Boll Weevils continued their shooting woes, dropping their shooting percentage to 28.6 to give the team a 29 percent average for the game. The Chargers kept their percentage above 50 in the second half to stretch their lead to as much as 31 points with 15:21 left in regulation.
 
Boswell led UAM in scoring with 14 points on 4-of-10 shooting, all three-pointers. He added a pair of free throws to reach his final total. Junior Sergio Crowe also reached double-digits for UAM with 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field, including a pair of three-pointers.
 
UAH’s Tyler Hanback finished as the contest’s top scorer with 22 points. Josh Magette had 18 and Jaime Smith had 12.
 
With the non-conference portion of the schedule coming to a close, the Boll Weevils being the 14-game Gulf South Conference schedule Saturday, January 8 at home against Christian Brothers. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
