BLOSSOMS PERFECT ON 2ND DAY OF CHARGER CHILL-OUT

DECATUR, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team picked up a pair of wins on the second day of the Charger Chill-Out with a 10-2 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan and a 6-1 upset of No. 2 North Georgia.

In the win over KWC, the Cotton Blossoms (7-1) bounced back from scoring only one run a day earlier to plate a double-digit run total for the fourth time this season. Junior Randa Perry (2-0) picked up the win in complete-game style. Both of the runs she allowed were unearned due to errors.

Later in the day, UAM plated a run in each of the first four innings to give North Georgia its first loss of the season.

Senior Sarah Hayslip had an RBI triple in the first and an RBI single in the second. Junior Kayla Jackson, who also recorded the win in the circle, had an RBI bases loaded walk in the second and picked up an RBI double in the fourth.

UAM capitalized on a North Georgia error to score one run in the third. UAM’s other third inning score came on a sacrifice fly by Perry.

Jackson (4-0) allowed only one run – an RBI groundout in the first – off five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Complete game statistics from the KWC game will be posted on uamsports.com when they become available.

UAM concludes its participation in the Charger Chill-Out with back-to-back games on Sunday (2/20). The Cotton Blossoms face Barry at 9 a.m., followed by their second top 10 opponent of the season, No. 6 Wayne State at 11 a.m.
