WEEVILS SUFFER TWO SETBACKS TO TIGERS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was defeated twice on Friday by Ouachita Baptist with final scores of 13-10 and 16-1.

In the first game, UAM (17-22, 6-11 Gulf South Conference) took their first and only lead of the game with three runs in the third and two in the fourth for a 5-4 lead, but the Tigers (18-26, 7-10 GSC) plated eight runners in the bottom of the fourth to re-capture the lead for the final time.

The big blow for OBU in the fourth was a grand slam homerun from Sam McGill.

UAM was led offensively by juniors Tanner Laran and Wayne Hawkins, who each tallied three hits in the loss. Laran was 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Hawkins was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Brandon Miller (2-5) took the loss after allowing nine runs (seven earned) off eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks in the first 3.1 innings. OBU’s Ryan Westover (2-4) earned the win despite allowing eight runs off 10 hits with three strikeouts and five walks in the first six innings. OBU’s Zac Treece tallied his fourth save of the season after retiring the final two batters of the game, each representing the tying run.

In the second game, OBU’s Kolby Moore (8-5) held UAM to only two hits – a bunt single by Hawkins in the first and an infield single by freshman Justin Hollis in the sixth. Moore tossed a complete game and struck out seven, while walking four.

UAM’s lone run came in the first on an RBI groundout by sophomore TJ Cox.

Senior Reece Cross (6-4) took the loss after getting roughed up for 10 runs (eight earned) off 10 hits with two strikeouts and three walks in the first 2.1 innings.
