BISONS TAKE SERIES WITH 7-1 SUNDAY WIN

SEARCY, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team lost to No. 20 Harding on Sunday by a final score of 7-1 to allow the Bisons to win the three-game series two games to one.

UAM (10-17, 1-8 Gulf South Conference) outhit the Bisons (28-6, 7-2 GSC) 8-6, but left nine runners on base and committed four errors to create the difference in the scoring margin.

Junior Chase Stokes was responsible for UAM’s lone run with an RBI single through the left side of the infield in the top of the fourth to score senior Richard Atwood, who reached on a fielder’s choice earlier in the frame.

Junior Fernando Garcia led UAM with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, all singles. Junior Wayne Hawkins had a 2-for-4 outing in his first game back after missing almost a month due to facial injury.

Harding scored two runs in the second, one in the third, and finalized the scoring with four unearned runs in the eighth.

Sophomore Eddie Smith (3-4) was saddled with the loss for UAM after allowing five runs (two earned) off four hits with five strikeouts and only one walk in the first seven innings. Logan Holthaus (4-0) captured the win for Harding after allowing one run off seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks in the first eight innings.

The Boll Weevils step out of GSC action for a trip to Jackson, Miss. this Wednesday, April 6 to face Belhaven University in a single nine-inning game at 6 p.m. Belhaven defeated UAM 11-2 in Monticello on March 22.
