RIDERS COMPLETE SWEEP, WEEVILS FALL IN SEASON FINALE


MAGNOLIA, Ark.
– The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team concluded the 2011 season with a 16-2 loss to Southern Arkansas on Sunday.

The Muleriders (32-13, 15-6 Gulf South Conference) plated at least one run in each inning except for the fifth and totaled 14 hits to complete the three game sweep.

The Boll Weevils (17-26, 6-15 GSC) were led offensively by freshman Justin Hollis for the second consecutive game. Hollis was 2-for-2 at the plate and was responsible for UAM’s only scoring with a two-run single in the sixth to score senior Richard Atwood and junior Tino Trujillo.

Trujillo tied Hollis for the team high in hits with 2-for-3 outing. UAM’s other base hit came from junior Fernando Garcia with a single to center field in the top of the fifth.

SAU’s Ziggie Vanderwall (5-2) was credited with the win after keeping UAM scoreless on three hits through the first five innings. Sophomore Eddie Smith (4-7) took the loss for UAM after allowing seven runs off eight hits in the first three innings.
