BUZZER BEATER DASHES BLOSSOMS

Box Score
MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Cotton Blossoms dropped a heart-breaker tonight on a last second shot, 64-65 to Southeastern Oklahoma.

The Blossoms (4-8, 0-2 GAC) were up two with 42 seconds remaining. After getting the ball across half court Coach Ray called a time out to set up the final possession. The time ticked away as everyone in Steelman Field House thought the game all but won.

Chelsea Johnson put up a three with the shot clock running down that kicked off into the eager arms of SOSU’s Ali Stone who dished the ball the length of the court and found Whitney Coffey waiting in the corner. The senior set and buried the dagger with .1 seconds remaining on the clock. The Blossoms did not have time to move the ball the length of the court on the Hail Mary inbounds pass from Alex Hart, handing the Savage Storm the 65-64 win.

The game was tight from beginning to end, with no team leading by more than five points. The score was tied ten separate times and the lead changed hands 13 times before the final buzzer sounded. Only at the foul line was the game out of sync. The Savage Storm went a perfect 15-of-15 on the night, while
UAM missed six, 9-of-14, not terrible on a normal night, but costly in a one-point nail-biter.

Three different Blossoms finished in double figures with Channon Haywood leading the way with 12 points in 20 minutes. Alex Hart and Chelsea Johnson each added ten. Ashley Hobbs set the game high with 24 for Southeastern.

UAM shot 43-percent on the night, going 23-of-53 from the field. They added 10-of-19 threes for 53 percent and the 9-of-14 from the line. SOSU shot 33 percent from the floor (20-of-60), 36 percent from three (9-of-25) and the perfect 15-of-15 from the foul line.

The Blossoms will have a week to work out their frustrations over their first two GAC games, as their next game with Henderson State is not until next Saturday. The Lady Reddies will host UAM in a 2:00 p.m. game at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.
