Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The UAM baseball team put up six runs in the first inning, but couldn’t keep up as Angelo State put up 20 hits on the day to win 13-7 at Goodheart Field.
The Weevils (2-1) had trouble getting out of the first inning, as the Rams (6-0) got off seven runs on five hits in the frame. UAM made a good response with six in the home half of the inning. They had three hits and took advantage of two Ram errors to come within one run of tying the score.
From there, the Weevils’ only run came in the bottom of the fourth off a Josh Chism single to second that drove in Taylor Eaves. It was the second RBI on the day for Chism. Chase Stokes and Tyler Walker had one each as the other Weevil runs were unearned.
Chris Guzman (1-1) went three innings in the start, surrendering nine runs on nine hits and taking the loss. Josh Chism finished the final six innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits. He had four strikeouts in 28 batters faced.
The Weevils will face Arkansas Tech in a non-conference matchup. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
