MULERIDERS TOO MUCH FOR WEEVILS 17-3

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The UAM baseball team dropped a 17-3 decision today at Southern Arkansas.

The Muleriders (10-7) jumped out with a seven-run second inning in which they had one hit. UAM’s pitchers gave up five walks in the innging along with two hit batsmen and a wild pitch to bring in the seven runs that had the Weevils (11-7) working from behind all day.

Hunter Allday drove in Wayne Hawkins in the top of the fourth for the Weevils’ first run, but SAU tacked on another five runs in the bottom half of the inning on four hits and a double in the fifth brought in their run total to 13.

UAM got two more runs in the top of the seventh. J.D. Deloach got a double to right that scored Allday and Christian Gallegos drove him in two batters later with a single to short. The Mulerider offense tacked on four more runs in the bottom half of the inning to set the 17-3 final.

Sam Cason took the loss in the start, going one-and-two-thirds innings. He gave up six runs on one hit with three walks in 12 batters faced.

The Weevils will travel over to Ada this weekend to take on the East Central Tigers in a GAC doubleheader. First pitch on Saturday is slated for noon.
