Box Score Game 3
MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Boll Weevils were swept this afternoon, falling to Ouachita Baptist 12-4 in GAC action.
The Tigers (18-17, 6-6 GAC) led from beginning to end in the series finale. They got three runs on the board before UAM (14-18, 4-12 GAC) got some help in the bottom of the second. They scored thanks to a pair of OBU errors and a single from Hunter Allday.
UAM came within one run in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Eaves got hit by a pitch, stole second and moved to third on a sac bunt from Christian Gallegos. Danny Loya came up and shot a single to left to bring him the rest of the way home. Josh Chism drew a walk to put two on for Allday, who came through again with a scorcher down the right field line that scored them both to pull the Weevils within one, 4-5.
Unfortunately, the Tigers were not to be denied. They rattled off three runs in the seventh and four more in the top of the ninth to leave UAM in an eight-run hole for their final at-bat. After two singles to start the bottom of the ninth, the Weevils went down in order to finish the game, 12-4.
Six pitchers saw action in the game today, as Chris Guzman took the loss in the start. He went four innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout. From there no UAM pitcher went longer than an inning and two-thirds. Guzman falls to 4-2 on the season. Josh Everett picked up the win for the Tigers, going seven innings.
The Weevils will return to action this Wednesday, April 4, as they travel over to Mississippi to take on former GSC-rival Delta State in a single game at Boo Ferris Field. First pitch is slated for 6:30 in Cleveland.
