Game 3
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The UAM baseball team concluded their 2012 GAC schedule this afternoon with a 3-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, taking the series 2-1.
UAM (18-26, 7-16 GAC) broke up the scoreless game in the fifth inning. Chase Stokes led the inning with a single then stole second to get into scoring position. Paul Parsels put him on third with a pop out to right. Justin Hollis got him home with two outs on an RBI single to put the Weevils up 1-0.
That would turn out to be all the offense the Weevils would need to win this one, although they did get two insurance runs in the top of the eighth to secure the win. Southwestern (24-16, 11-10 GAC) waked in two runs with the bases loaded before they could get out of the jam.
Chris Guzman got the win for UAM in seven innings of scoreless work. He gave up four hits and struck out four in 24 batters faced. Russell Watts came in to save the game in the eighth, giving the Weevils two innings of flawless work, three-up-three-down, to close the game and the win.
The win concludes the 2012 season for the Boll Weevils. They finish with 18 wins and 26 losses on the year including a 7-16 mark in GAC-play in ninth place.
