Box Score Game 1
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The UAM baseball team defeated Arkansas Tech tonight 3-2 at Tech Field in Russellville.
Arkansas Tech (16-21, 5-8 GAC) got things going in the bottom of the first with a triple down the right field line. UAM (15-19, 5-12 GAC) answered in the top of the second off a J.D. Deloach single that drove in Hunter Allday from second.
The score remained tied at one until the Weevils took the lead in the top of the seventh. Justin Hollis got a solo homerun to left with two outs in the inning to give UAM the 2-1 lead. They extended that lead to two runs in the top of the eighth after Christian Gallegos scored on an error by the shortstop.
The Wonder Boys pulled to within one in the home half of the eighth off a single to third, but Kenny Marshall closed the door, getting Scott Sammons to strike out swinging to end the threat and the inning.
Marshall got the complete game win, going nine innings, giving up the two runs on two hits with eight walks and nine strikeouts. Aaron Luchterhand took the loss for the Wonder Boys in seven innings of work.
The two teams will complete the three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
