UAM BASEBALL PUSHES WINNING STREAK TO SEVEN

BOX SCORE

MONTICELLO —
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team secured its seventh straight victory by defeating Lyon College 13-0 on Tuesday at home in non-conference action.

Of UAM’s nine hits in Tuesday’s win, five were for extra bases, including three homeruns.

The Boll Weevils (8-3) started the scoring in the bottom of the first with one run when senior Taylor Eaves scored on a passed ball. UAM plated seven runs in the second, highlighted by a three-run double by junior Alex Lang and a two-run homerun from senior Hunter Allday.

UAM went to the long ball again in the fourth, this time of the grand-slam variety on a shot to left field from junior catcher Chad Miller.

The Boll Weevils finalized the scoring in the sixth with a solo homerun to right center from junior Ray Johnson.

The UAM pitching staff held Lyon (8-3) to just three hits. Freshman starter Zach McKnight (1-0) earned his first collegiate win, giving the Boll Weevils five quality innings, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts and four walks. Junior Logan Johnson and junior Russell Watts combined to allow only two hits in the final two innings.

Lyon’s Ryan Vericker (1-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs off four hits with one walk in the first 1.1 innings.

The Boll Weevils are back to their Great American Conference slate this weekend on the road to Weatherford, Okla. to face off against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State for a three-game series.
