LATE RALLY LIFTS UAM TO RUN-RULE WIN OVER ECU

BOX SCORE

ADA, Okla. —
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team scored five runs in each of sixth and seventh innings leading to a 12-2, seven-inning victory over East Central on the road Friday in Great American Conference action.

The win moves UAM to 20-13 overall and 10-9 in the GAC, securing the program’s 13th 20-win season and first 10-win conference season since 2003. ECU drops to 7-23 overall and 1-15 in the league.

Also in Friday’s win, UAM extended its streak of complete-games from its starters in conference games. Senior hurler Bobby Bryan allowed two unearned runs off four hits on Friday, while striking out five and allowing just three walks in seven innings of work. He became the third straight UAM starter to toss a complete-game against a conference foe.

UAM opened the scoring in the top of the first on a sac fly from junior Ben Agredano to score senior Taylor Eaves, who doubled earlier in the inning. UAM went up 2-0 in the fifth thanks to an ECU error.

The Boll Weevils ran away with it in the final two innings with five runs off five hits in the sixth and another five runs in the seventh off three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch.

Juniors Alex Lang and D’Marco Poindexter, as well as senior Taylor Eaves led the team offensively. Lang went 2-for-4 with four RBI after recording a two-run single in the sixth and a two-run double in the seventh. Poindexter was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with RBI singles in the sixth and seventh innings. Eaves was 4-for-5 with an RBI double in the sixth.

ECU finalized the scoring in the bottom of the seventh with two unearned runs following a UAM error.

Robert Buitrago (0-7) took the loss for ECU after allowing seven runs off 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the first 5.1 innings.

The two squads are set to conclude the three-game series on Saturday with a double-header starting at 10 a.m. in Ada.
