ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team extended its streak to six consecutive victories on Tuesday with a 4-2 non-conference win over Ouachita Baptist on the road.
The Boll Weevils (26-14) scored three runs in the top of the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from junior D’Marco Poindexter. Junior Tyler Caruthers also scored in the inning on a passed ball after reaching base on a walk and moving to third on Poindexter’s single.
Junior Chad Miller finalized the scoring with an RBI sac fly in the eighth inning to score senior Danny Loya, who singled earlier in the inning.
OBU scored one run in the second on an RBI single from Will Wallace, and scored its final run in the fourth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Matt Balogh.
UAM pitchers Zack McKnight and Kade Garlington combined to only allow four hits in nine innings of work. Garlington (2-0) earned the win after allowing just one hit with one strikeout and one walk in the final five innings. Tryce Schachlin (1-1) took the loss for OBU after allowing three runs off five hits with no strikeouts and one walk in the first 3.1 innings.
The Boll Weevils are back in action this weekend for the team’s final home Great American Conference series of the season. UAM welcomes Southern Nazarene to town for a three-game series, starting with a single nine-inning game this Friday, April 12 at 2 p.m. On Saturday, UAM will host Senior Day to honor nine Weevils playing in their final conference games at Weevils Field.
