MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team opened the Kyle Tolin era with a 114-75 win over Champion Baptist on Saturday inside Steelman Field House.

The Weevils (1-0) outscored Champion Baptist (2-6) 58-33 in the first half and 56-42 in the second half. As a team, UAM shot 60 percent from the field (46-for-77), 26 percent on three-pointers (5-for-19) and 71 percent on foul shots (17-for-24). Champion Baptist shot 47 percent from the field (31-for-66), 29 percent on three-pointers (5-for-17) and 62 percent on foul shots (8-for-13).

UAM placed nine scorers in double-digits, led by senior Sharif Hudson's career-high 28 points on a 9-for-13 shooting performance from the field and 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. Hudson also added five rebounds and six steals to his final totals.

Senior Cameron Blue scored 23 points off the bench in his UAM debut, going 10-for-11 from the field. Junior Jamal Peterson followed with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Senior D'Audrio Patton also reached double-digits in scoring with 13 points.

The Weevils had a 22-9 assist to turnover ratio in the win, and outrebounded the Tigers 43-29, including a 17-12 edge on the offensive glass leading to 21 second-chance points. UAM also capitalized off 22 Tiger turnovers for 35 points.

Champion Baptist was led by Hayes Linville with 15 points. David Gardner added 13 points off the bench.

UAM is back in action tomorrow with an exhibition game at UALR. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock.
