MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team shot a season-low 31 percent from the field, while No. 20 Harding shot 52 percent to beat the Blossoms 69-49 on Saturday inside Steelman Field House.
The Blossoms (3-5, 2-2 Great American Conference) connected on just 7-of-25 shots in the first half and 9-of-27 in the second half, while finshing the game 5-for-20 on three-pointers. Despite the low field goal shooting numbers, the Blossoms were perfect at the foul line, sinking 12-of-12 shots.
Midway through the first half, UAM rallied to take an 11-10 lead over the Lady Bisons (6-2, 3-0 GAC) on a three-pointer from freshman Taylor Collins. Harding responded with a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead two minutes later.
The Lady Bisons scored 10 points in the final four minutes of the first half to hold a double-digit lead of 32-21 at the halftime break. In the second half, the Lady Bisons maintained its double-digit lead throughout the first six minutes before getting on top by 20. The closet UAM came to the Lady Bisons throughout the remainder of the contest was a 16-point deficit at the 10:03 mark.
Junior Jordan Goforth led all scorers with 19 points. Junior Nikki Mullen also reached double-figures for the Blossoms with 10 points.
Arielle Saunders led the Lady Bisons with a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Correy Moyer and Falan Miller also scored in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Blossoms are back in action next Saturday with another road trip to Arkadelphia, this time to face off against Ouachita Baptist. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
