JACKSON, Tenn. – The 28th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team used three runs batted in from senior Alex Lang to pick up a 3-1 road victory over Union University on Tuesday.
Lang went 1-for-3 at the plate in Tuesday's win with a sacrifice fly to left in the top of the fifth inning to force a 1-all tie. Then in the seventh, following back-to-back two-out singles from senior Justin Hollis and sophomore Evan Comeau, Lang drove both of them in with a single to left to finalize the scoring.
Union (5-17) out hit UAM (18-10) 9-6, but left 11 runners on base, including bases loaded on two occasions. Senior Ray Johnson went 2-for-4 for UAM's only multi-hit performance in the win.
Junior Josh Mingura (2-1) earned the win after allowing just one run off seven hits in the first six innings. Sophomore Gavin Johnston picked up his first career save after retiring the final two batters of the contest, including a strikeout.
Teddy Christie (0-4) took the loss after giving up the two go-ahead runs off four total hits in the final three innings.
The Weevils return home for the first time in over two weeks for a three-game Great American Conference series against 30th-ranked Harding this Friday and Saturday at Weevils Field. The series starts with a single nine-inning game on Friday at 2 p.m.
