ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist starting pitcher Davis Ward threw eight scoreless innings and tallied nine strikeouts to defeat the 11th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team by a final score of 4-0 on Friday at Rab Rogers Field.
The Tigers (10-9, 5-5 Great American Conference) scored one in the first, two in the fifth on a two-run triple from Parker Norris and added their final run in the eighth.
UAM (14-6, 6-4 GAC) left 12 runners on base in the loss, including bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings.
Both teams totaled seven hits in the contest. The Weevils were led by senior Ben Agredano's 2-for-4 outing at the plate. OBU's Jace Melby went 3-for-4.
OBU's Davis Ward (5-0) kept his perfect record intact by allowing no runs off six hits with nine strikeouts and three walks in the first three innings. Junior Logan Johnson (3-2) took the loss for UAM after allowing three runs off five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in the first 6.2 innings.
The two squads close out the three-game GAC series on Saturday with a double header starting at noon in Arkadelphia.
