UAM FALLS IN NCAA REGIONAL OPENER

RUSSELVILLE, Arkansas —
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team fell to Southern Arkansas by a final score of 11-4 on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament on the campus of Arkansas Tech University.

The Muleriders (39-17) scored seven runs in the first two innings to grab an early lead. SAU added one in the third before behind held scoreless in the next three innings and finalizing the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Weevils (36-16) opened the scoring in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from junior Bronson Gillam. Senior Ray Johnson delivered a two-run triple in the top of the third, and senior Chad Miller scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to account for UAM's last three runs of the game.

SAU outhit UAM 14-9 in the game, led by Trevor Rucker's 5-for-5 outing at the plate, including a pair of doubles.

Senior Ben Agredano led the Weevils with a 3-for-4 performance. Miller turned in UAM's other multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Sophomore Zach McKnight (4-5) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs off five hits in the first 1.1 innings. Dylan Lynn (11-1) earned the win for SAU, allowing four runs off nine hits in eights innings of work.

The Weevils are now set for an elimination game on Friday at noon against the loser of the Arkansas Tech vs. Augustana opening round game.
