ENID, Oklahoma —
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team tied the program's single-season record for wins in a 3-2 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State in the opening round of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament.

The Weevils improve to 34-13 with the win, tying the 2005 record of 34-25.

UAM's three runs came on two swings, a two-run game-tying homerun from junior Corey Wood in the bottom of the fifth inning and the eventual game winning run on a sacrifice fly from senior Chad Miller in the bottom of the eight inning. Miller's sac fly scored senior Ben Agredano, who singled to lead off the inning.

SWOSU (25-22) took a lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Chris Faulkner, who put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the fifth with an RBI double.

UAM's bullpen kept the Bulldogs from scoring any runs in the final two innings by getting out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth and inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the game in the ninth with the go-ahead run on first base.

Junior Kregg Snook (4-1) earned the win in relief after getting two outs in the top of the eighth inning with the bases loaded. Junior Jeff Harvill registered his 10th save of the season by holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the ninth. Senior Kade Garlington earned a no decision after allowing just two runs off nine hits in the first 7.1 innings.

SWOSU's Jonathan Johnson (6-6) took the loss in complete-game style, giving up three runs off 11 hits.

The Weevils advance into the winner's bracket and play next on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against either Southern Arkansas or Harding. That game will be covered live on the GAC Sports Network video webcast as well as the UAM Sports Radio Network at KHBM-FM 93.7 in Monticello and online at uamsports.com.
