MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team recorded its fifth straight home victory on Thursday night by defeating Ouachita Baptist 73-52 inside Steelman Field House.
For the third time this season, the Blossoms (9-8, 7-5 Great American Conference) went above .500 in overall shooting, finishing Thursday's win at 52 percent after making 29-of-56 shots. It was the team's second-highest percentage of the year.
UAM used a 13-0 run midway through the first half to create a 17-point lead at the 5:22 mark on an old-fashioned three-point play by junior Jordan Goforth.
The Lady Tigers (7-12, 3-9 GAC) opened the second half by cutting UAM's 12-point halftime lead into a five-point advantage at the 16:24 mark on four straight points from OBU's Katie Kapler. UAM later posted an 8-0 run to get back on top by double-digits with 10:14 remaining in regulation. The Blossoms maintained a double-digit advantage for the rest of the game, leading by as much as 21 points with 44 seconds left.
Goforth led all scorers with 24 points, her ninth game of the year to have at least 20 points. Junior Nikki Mullen followed with 14. Junior Nelsha Peterson had 11. Sophomore Tori Nichols also reached double-figures with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Breanna Harris led the Lady Tigers with 17 points. Kapler finished with 13. Ouachita finished the game at 41 percent from the field (18-for-44).
The Blossoms are back in action on Saturday at home against Henderson State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
