MONTICELLO – Despite shooting a season-low 24 percent from the field and only scoring 15 points in the second half, the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team managed a 43-42 victory over Henderson State at home on Saturday.
Junior Jordan Goforth capped her game-high 24-point performance with a left-handed hook shot in the lane with two seconds remaining for the go-ahead and final basket of the game.
The Lady Reddies (7-12, 5-8 Great American Conference) forced the seventh lead change of the game 10 seconds earlier on a pair of free throws from Dulincia Keener to put HSU up 42-41.
Only two points separated the two squads for the final eight minutes of regulation. There were four tie scores and six lead changes during that final stretch.
The Blossoms (10-8, 8-5 GAC) made 14-of-58 total shots in the win. The poor shooting performance was echoed by the Lady Reddies at 33 percent from the field on only 15 made shots. UAM shot 17 percent from the field in the second half alone, making 5-of-30 shots. The lady Reddies hovered around 32 percent shooting for the entire game.
UAM's largest lead in the game was its nine-point halftime advantage of 28-19.
Goforth was UAM's only double-digit scorer, and added nine rebounds to her final totals. Sophomore Tori Nichols led all players with 12 rebounds, her fifth game of the season to reach double-digits in the rebound category.
HSU was led by Keener with 12 points. Haleigh Henson and Jasmine Settles each scored 11 points for the Lady Reddies.
