MONTICELLO — Junior Carolina Gasparini recorded the best individual hitting percentage in University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball history to lead the Blossoms to a three-set victory over UAPB on Tuesday at home.
Gasparini posted 11 kills and zero errors on 17 swings for a .647 percentage. It bested UAM's previous record of .629, set by Jalynn Thornton against Christian Brothers on November 8, 2008. In addition to school-record hitting percentage, she had the match-high in kills, and also had six digs and two total blocks.
The last time UAM (7-8) played UAPB (3-17), the Blossoms set a new team record for hitting percentage at .439. This time around, UAM posted 36 kills and 10 errors on 79 swings for a .329 percentage. UAPB totaled 26 kills and 25 errors on 88 swings for a .011 percentage. Final game scores were 25-19, 25-10 and 25-14.
UAM hit above .400 in the first two sets, including a .458 mark in a dominant second set win that featured an 81 percent side out rate.
Sophomore Aubrey Harrison finished second on the team with eight kills, and hung with Gasparini in the percentage category at .636 after only committing one error on 11 total swings. Harrison also paced the team with five of UAM's 12 block assists. Senior Sydni Schulz added seven kills and seven digs in the win.
Senior Kaila Kikugawa posted a team-high 10 digs. Junior Aliyssa Theis aided the UAM offensive attack with 27 assists.
The Blossoms are now in preparation for their longest road trip of the 2015 season with a Friday match at Northwestern Oklahoma State and a Saturday contest at Southwestern Oklahoma State.
