EAST CENTRAL TOPS @UAMWBB, 66-56

ADA, Oklahoma — East Central outscored the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team 22-12 in the fourth period, leading to a 66-56 win over the Blossoms on Saturday in Great American Conference action.

Prior to ECU's surge in the fourth period, the Blossoms (1-1, 1-1 GAC) had outscored the Tigers (1-2, 1-1 GAC) 21-14 in the third period to force a 44-all tie heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Tigers started the final period on an 8-0 run to hold a 52-44 lead with 6:21 remaining. The Blossoms were able to cut that deficit in half two minutes later, but that four-point deficit with 4:33 remaining was as close as the Tigers allowed UAM to get throughout the final four minutes of the contest.

ECU outscored UAM 16-9 in the first period, and both teams scored 14 in the second period to give the Tigers a 30-23 lead at the halftime break.

The Blossoms finished the game shooting 32 percent from the field (18-for-56), 25 percent on three-pointers (5-for-20) and 68 percent on foul shots (15-for-22). Senior Jordan Goforth led the Blossoms with 19 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Ayesha Wahid chipped in with 13 points in 24 minutes of the bench. Junior Nikki Mullen also reached double-digits in scoring with 10 points.

Goforth, now with 1,283 career points, moved up one spot on UAM's all-time scoring list in Saturday's loss to ECU. The Plano, Texas native surpassed Becky Jones, who scored 1,276 points from 1984-88. Goforth is now four points away from 11th place, which is currently held by Susan Pemberton with 1,287 points from 1986-90.

The Tigers finished at 44 percent from the field (22-for-50), 57 percent on three-pointers (13-for-23) and 64 percent on foul shots (9-for-14). ECU's Alexa Adair connected on six three-pointers in the contest and finished with a game-high 28 points.

The Blossoms return to action next Friday and Saturday, November 27-28 in San Antonio, Texas at the St. Mary's University Thanksgiving Classic.
