MONTICELLO — University of Arkansas at Monticello senior women's basketball player Jordan Goforth finished just shy of a triple-double to lead the Blossoms to an 82-61 Great American Conference victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Goforth finished with 30 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, all of which were game highs. It is the third game of her career with at least 30 points. UAM's other scoring leaders were senior Nikki Mullen with 21 points, sophomore Cheridan Burroughs with 13 and freshman Ayesha Wahid with 12.
The Blossoms (4-2, 3-1 GAC) had sizeable advantages in both the rebounds and points in the paint categories. UAM held a 46-33 edge on the boards and led 40-20 in points under the basket.
NWOSU (1-6, 0-4 GAC) looked to be in control early in the game, jumping out to a 12-3 lead in the first four minutes. The Rangers maintained that lead for the majority of the first period before the Blossoms used a 9-0 run to force an 18-all tie at the start of the second period.
UAM controlled the second and third periods with a combined scoring margin of 45-25 to hold a 20-point lead of 63-43 heading into the final 10 minutes. The Blossoms held at least a 16-point lead for the remainder of the game to earn the team's third straight victory.
The Blossoms finished the game with a 48-35 percent edge in field goal shooting.
UAM continues its current four-game home stand on Thursday, December 17 with a non-conference matchup against Philander Smith College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Steelman Field House.
