MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team bounced back from a 4-3 loss in the first game of Saturday's double header to beat Southern Nazarene 21-2 in the nightcap to salvage one win in the three-game set.

The Weevils (4-4, 1-2 Great American Conference) racked up 13 hits in the win and took advantage of five walks and seven hit by pitches to put up a crooked number in each of the first five innings, including five-run rallies in the third and fourth innings.

Senior Bronson Gillam posted three hits in the double header, two going over the wall in right field, including a grand slam homerun in the bottom of the first inning of the second game. He was responsible for one of UAM's three runs in the first game with a solo shot to right field in the second inning.

Junior Corey Wood did not register a hit in Saturday's win, but totaled two RBI by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second and collecting an RBI groundout in the fifth. Junior Mitchell Dornblut also posted a multi-RBI performance with a two-run double as a part of UAM's five-run fourth inning. He also had a double in the first inning.

True freshman Chase Tucker busted out of his career-opening slump with a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the win, including doubles in the third and sixth innings.

Senior Austin Braddock (2-0) went the distance for the Weevils and gave up only one hit, while striking out nine and walking only one. He gave up one run in each of the first and second innings, but both were unearned due to errors.

In the first half of the double-header, UAM only scored on the long ball. Gillam's solo shot in the second opened the scoring, and redshirt freshman Brian Ray cleared the fence with a two-run shot in the third to give the Weevils a 3-0 lead.

SNU answered with four runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Gaige Webster. That rally held on to be the game-winner. Both teams only reached scoring position twice in the final five innings.

The Weevils continue their home stand on Tuesday against Union University for a single non-conference game starting at 2 p.m.
