MULLEN, GOFORTH LEAD @UAMWBB IN ROAD WIN OVER SAU

MAGNOLIA, Arkansas –
University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball juniors Nikki Mullen and Jordan Goforth both scored over 20 points to lead the Blossoms to a 77-63 Great American Conference road victory over Southern Arkansas on Thursday night.

Mullen finished one point shy of tying her career-high with 24 points on an 8-of-16 shooting performance, including six made three-pointers. Goforth added 22 points on a 7-for-12 shooting performance. It was the second time the duo has scored 20 points in the same game this season. Junior Nelsha Peterson also reached double-figures with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.

As a team, UAM (13-11, 11-8 GAC) posted its third 50 percent shooting game of the season, finishing right at even (23-for-46). The Blossoms made 8-of-17 three-pointers and 23-of-28 foul shots.

The host Muleriders (8-17, 6-13 GAC) led for all but two possessions of the first half, including a lead of as much as eight points on a layup from Tierra Tucker at the 4:13 mark. UAM scored the final five points of the opening period to trim its deficit down to three points at the break (41-38).

In the second half, UAM took over the lead on a three-pointer by Mullen at the 17:59 mark and never trailed throughout the rest of the game. SAU tied the score one final time at the 11:51 mark, but the Blossoms answered with an 15-2 run to grab a double-digit lead with 7:17 remaining.

UAM reached its largest lead of 14 points in the game's final made basket with 17 seconds remaining.

SAU finished the game at 42 percent from the field (25-for-59). Allie Wade led the Lady Muleriders with 13 points, followed by Rosa Bryant with 11.

The Blossoms wrap up the regular season this Saturday at home against Arkansas Tech. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Steelman Field House.
