TIPTON, SLAUGHTER LEAD UAM SOFTBALL IN WIN OVER CBU

ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas –
University of Arkansas at Monticello senior softball player Sydney Tipton totaled four hits and senior Katie Slaugher tossed a complete-game shutout to lead the Blossoms to an 8-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Sunday in the final day of the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational.

The Blossoms (2-2) lost to Missouri Western State (3-1) 14-0 earlier in the day. The Griffons scored 12 runs in the top of the fourth inning. UAM was held to four hits in that loss.

In the win over Christian Brothers (1-4), Tipton finished 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in and three runs scored. She started her multi-hit performance with a two-run single in the top of the first inning, and added a double in the fifth, a single in the sixth and a double in the seventh.

Junior Katherine Batey, freshman Ashton Currey, freshman Breanna Sanders and freshman Aubree Head all had two hits in the victory. Head matched Tipton in RBI with a two run double in the top of the fifth inning.

Slaughter (1-1) finished her shutout with only five hits allowed and one strikeout.

The Blossoms are back in action this upcoming Thursday-Sunday in Bentonville, Arkansas for the 8-State Classic.
