ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas –
Ouachita Baptist scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team by a final score of 9-8 on Tuesday at Rab Rogers Field.

It was the third game between the two teams in the last two days to be decided in the late innings. Ouachita won Monday's first game in the 10th inning before the Weevils answered with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh of game two.

Down 5-4 after five innings, the Weevils (10-9) took their second lead of the game with three runs in the top half of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homerun from junior Travis Steinke. Junior Corey Wood also had an RBI groundout in the rally.

After the Tigers (12-9) cut their deficit in half with one run in the bottom of the seventh, Wood put the Weevils back on top by two with a solo homerun in the top of the eighth, his third of the season. Wood ended up with a career-high four RBI with single RBIs in four of six at bats.

The Tigers loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth and capitalized with a walk and a two-run single to take their final lead.

Ouachita's Jace Melby started the scoring with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first. UAM answered with a three-run third inning. The Tigers regained the lead with a four-run third inning, three runs coming on a bases-loaded double from Josh Weigel. The Weevils trimmed the Tiger lead down to one run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout by Corey Wood.

Junior Kevin Fitzpatrick was responsible for three of UAM's nine total hits, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a bunt single, a walk and a hit by pitch. It was his sixth multi-hit performance of the season.

The Weevils ended up leaving 12 runners on base, marking the 11th time this season to have double-digits in the category.

UAM is back in action this weekend at home with a three-game Great American Conference series against Arkansas Tech.
